The Name Tkaro
Tkaro was derived from the Italian word ‘chiaro’ which means ‘clear’. Glass provides the pureness of form and material that comprise Tkaro glass water bottles, a vessel for the clearest and cleanest of all elements, water.

‘T‘ for Taylor was added to ‘kiaro’ next to Kai’s ‘k’ and we removed the ‘i’ (which sounded too much like the Spanish phrase for I love you, ‘Te quiero’). The colon came about as a placeholder for the dropped ‘i’, for ease of reading and simply to add another layer to the name.

It wasn’t until much later that we discovered (to our delight) that Toronto, Tkaro’s home base, was originally named Tkaronto, by the Mohawk Indians way back in the 1600’s. Ironically, Tkaronto means ‘where there are trees standing in the water’, a wonderful nod to our green, eco-friendly water bottle!
